In our series of top Swiss mountain festivals, today we present to you:
Where: Jungfrau – the Top of Europe
How to get there: SBB (Swiss trains) + mountain railway
Situated in the Canton of Bern, at the foot of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, Kleine Scheidegg is located 2,061 metres above sea level. It offers a breathtaking view of the Eiger north face – and this is where the SnowpenAir music festival takes place every year, since 1997! It has pretty much become a Swiss tradition at this point.
Fun fact: Snowpenair is the highest music festival that takes place in Europe! So you need to also know how to get there 😉
Kleine Scheidegg is only accessible via the mountain railway. First, you have to get to Interlaken Ost. Then take Bernese Oberland Railway to Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen. From there, the Wengeralp Railway will transport you up to Kleine Scheidegg. And hey presto – nearly there! Afterwards simply follow the signs set up by the festival organizer and you’ve made it! Phew – Quite a ride, but well worth it!
5 concerts are taking place at this year’s Snowpenair, which include local Swiss superstar acts, like pop conquerors Pegasus or the rock band Patent Ochsner, and also international artists, such as Fantastischen Vier – the German hip-hop superstars.
The doors open at 10:30am, with the first concert taking place at 10:45am from the awesome indie rockers: Container 6.
There is a combo-ticket that you can get: which includes the train trip from Interlaken to Kleine Scheidegg and a day lift pass for the Jungfrau region.
Remember to bring super warm clothing, a sturdy pair of shoes and some sunnies! And remember: shake rattle and roll, party people!
